Individual Counseling in Gainesville, Florida

You may feel anxious, depressed, or just uncertain about how to move forward. You notice that you’re there for everyone else, but never make time for yourself. You may have a sense that the past is holding you back, or it’s hard to handle conflict or assert yourself, and this gets in the way of good relationships in your life.

Individual therapy is a time just for you, where you are heard, and where you can reflect with a skilled therapist. Therapy allows you to uncover and address unwanted behavior patterns. Relationships improve, and your authenticity and way forward unfold. Individual therapy is a journey of self-discovery, support, and symptom relief. Therapy affirms your right to happiness and fulfillment, guiding you from scarcity to abundance.

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy! Therapy is also a time and place to work on your self development with a highly skilled, caring, aligned counselor in your corner. When life is going well, you have more energy and focus to make changes that set the stage for the next phase of your life. Our therapists love accompanying you as you heal, develop higher esteem, and create a more joyful and authentic life.

Group Therapy in Gainesville, Florida

We function in groups (family, school, friends, work) yet often there are unspoken rules and norms that confuse and hurt us. Individually, we all harbor false assumptions about what others think of us and frequently misdiagnose how others experience us.

Group therapy is a safe place to get authentic feedback and learn how we’re perceived by others. In group therapy, you learn how you interact with others, and learn how to develop intimacy and communication skills that make all your relationships better.

Group therapy has an unmatched power to transform the lives of its participants. Group clients commonly seek improved relationships, better social skills, warmer friendships, and a reduction in anxiety or depressive symptoms — or simply personal growth as a human being navigating life. Group is a powerful adjunct to individual work, and often helps clients achieve the best outcomes.

All of our therapists are experienced in group therapy, and Lisa is a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) and considered an expert in the field. Please see our current group offerings here.

Couples Therapy in Gainesville, Florida

We’re taught almost nothing about the vital skills we need to help relationships thrive. Because couples lack guidance on choosing a partner or navigating conflict and intimacy, we often replicate, unconsciously, the dysfunctional patterns we grew up withunless we intervene by learning what it takes to create a happy, healthy relationship.

Wolcott Counseling & Wellness therapists can assist you in improving your relationship dynamics and supporting your relational healing in a secure, objective and confidential environment. We provide a safe place for couples to examine conflict, disappointment, trust, communication, intimacy, health, finances, health and life transitions. You’ll learn about expressing needs and improving listening skills — to hear and be heard. Great relationships take some work, but the investment is worth it!

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to seek couples therapy! Being proactive can help you and your partner avoid a crisis, avoid pain, and avoid damage to your love relationship.

Our therapists are highly trained in relationship work, and use evidence-based methods such as the Gottman Method, to teach skills that yield positive results when couples are engaged. We are an affirming and kink positive practice

Divorcing Parents Education Classes

Co-parenting in the event of a separation or divorce is difficult and confusing. Did you know that the number one positive factor affecting childrens’ mental health when parents divorce is a lack of conflict between the divorcing parents? Florida Family Court requires all divorcing or separating couples with minor children to complete a DCF-approved Parenting Education and Family Stabilization class before finalizing their divorce.

Lisa Wolcott is certified by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to provide court-mandated parenting and stabilization education. Her online course, in english and en español, is available here. There is no in-person course at this time.

You do not need to be court mandated, or in Florida, to take the course! Investing in your child’s mental wellness by reducing conflict between you and your ex-spouse is available to anyone. Reach out to take the next step towards a healthier co-parenting relationship!

About the Daring Way

The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. Daring Way facilitators explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness. Participants are invited to examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding them back and identify the new choices and practices that will move them toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The focus of Daring Way work is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead.

The philosophy behind much of The Daring Way™ work is encapsulated in Dr. Brené Brown’s book Rising Strong. This book acknowledges that living a brave life is not easy. When we live fully, we will sometimes fall down. The Daring Way teaches us how to get back up, own our stories of struggle, and give ourselves the power to write a new ending to our stories. In fact, wrestling with our full stories is a call to courage and the clearest path to a wholehearted life.
